“I know you have it under control, but… but I am too overwhelmed with guilt to let you handle this alone, please. The whole issue is… is just escalating. Just let me help you deal with this mess before it gets worse.”

Alexander squinted his gaze slightly as he stared at me. Beneath the strong facade he was trying to show me, I could see exhaustion. “It has nothing to focus on you, trust me.”

I let out a soft chuckle as I walked closer to him. “Don’t try to make me feel less guilty, Alex.”

For what felt like an eternity, we just stared at each other, our gaze locked. The tension between us was palpable. I could hear his assistant shift uncomfortably as he let out a soft sigh.

“Give us a minute, would you?” He told his assistant, not taking his eyes off mine.
