Chapter 31. Whose Fault
“This is not how I raised you.” Andrew watched the fire rise in his mother’s eyes.
“Mom…”
The sound of Melvin’s chair toppling over, caught his attention. He followed after Melvin, passing the oval room to the hallway. Melvin had caught up with Elaine as she shrugged into her coat.
“I swear, I didn’t mean it that way.”
“Yes, sure, you didn’t.” Elaine raised her head. Liquid pooled at the bottom of her eyes. Her eyes landed on him and she turned from him and clasped her purse close. “It was a mistake to come here.”
“Let me drive you home,” Andrew found himself saying.
“No, I’m not going home. I’m going to town.”
“Which?”
“Where?”
Andrew and Melvin spoke at the same time.
He stared at his brother. There was no way he would let Elaine spend any more time with his family. He thought Melvin had made progress by bringing that Samantha girl here today but now here his brother was following after her like a love sick puppy.
