Chapter 30. Good Digger
“I saw that,” his grandfather murmured.
“Saw what?” Melvin raised his voice, drawing everyone’s attention to his grandfather.
His grandfather turned to Elaine without another word to him. “So, how has work been this past week?”
“Oh, you know. My company signed a deal with Swernbach Corporation, and everyone’s excited.” Elaine pushed her salad around. “Nothing particularly ordinary.”
“A contract you got by underhanded methods,” Andrew said.
“What are you implying?”
“If Melvin hadn’t brought you here, you would never have got the contract.”
Melvin sat back in his chair. Andrew was at it again. His brother just couldn’t let anything go without attempting to take his pound of flesh. Well, it would help his goal of increasing Elaine’s discomfort.
“I already told you that I would not gain anything from the contract. Not a salary increase. Not a cubicle. Nothing. Jean got the promotion. Jean got the chair. Jean got the cubicle, and I’m stuck
