Chapter 94. For the Wedding
Melvin heard Andrew’s voice from behind him, and he turned to face his brother. Andrew walked into the station with Annette following closely behind him.
“Why, Andrew? Is this one of your silly schemes to tear us apart?”
“You told me your card was stolen.”
Andrew met his eyes with the same old composed demeanor that he detested.
“My card?” Melvin yelled.
“Melvin? Is that you?” Elaine’s voice came from behind him, further past where the policeman stood.
“Yes, sweetie,” he replied, “I’m trying to solve this problem.”
“Sweetie?” Andrew’s look hardened.
“Got a problem with that?” Melvin pressed his fists against his waist, his suit jacket flying out behind his hands like a stiff cape in the wind.
“Well, she’s not so sweet if she stole your card.”
“She didn’t steal it,” Melvin groaned. “I gave it to her.”
“But when I asked you about it-”
“I forgot, okay? I forgot.”
