Chapter 38. Hardening
Kate's POV
The next day, I stepped out early in the morning wearing a hot spangle dress Matt bought me. The birds chirped and sang their morning songs as they saw me so hot in it. Only a few automobiles sped and vibrated on the road, where I stood.
The bus stop wasn’t heavy at all. I wondered what was going on. It was 7:00 AM and it wasn’t normal to be like that.
I looked left and right, stretching my neck to see the yellow-long omnibus, but it was not coming. I was feeling so reluctant to walk. And much of it would trigger my healing foot.
‘Why am I doing this early in the morning?’ I wondered and started walking back home. From the bus stop to where I live was just a stone's throw.
“So soon?” my mother asked, taking the breakfast I had prepared for her.
“The bus,” I disappointedly whispered.
“Yeah, today is Sunday. Have you forgotten?” she clarified and took a bite of her bread. After swallowing it, she continued, “I wouldn’t go there now
