Chapter 8

It was a huge house, but I still remembered the way. To get to my room I just had to go into the left wing and the second door on the left. At least that's what I noticed.

I hurried down the aisle, quickly wiping away another annoying tear running down my cheek.

My mate and I had our first meeting. Alpha Blackmoon didn't want me, even though I'd dreamed of my mate since I was a little girl. Now I got the cold-blooded man who didn't want me.

Was that a bad joke?

I didn't really start crying until I was in my room and the door slammed shut behind me.

I sat on the floor and let the tears flow. My heart contracted, that was probably lovesickness and it was strong.

It would be a cruel pain to be rejected by your mate. He would reject me and that made it a thousand times worse. A wonder he hadn't done it immediately.

If I was lucky, I could go home afterward. With bad luck, I was killed or imprisoned. Don't expect too much from a beast.

A sob escaped my lips and I clutched my heart. Something was broken inside me and there was a big hole in my heart.

I gave myself a moment, but then I took a few deep breaths. It may be cruel, but I had to pull myself together.

It didn't help a bit if I sat on the floor in misery and cried. However, a cold shower could help, so that I could at least get my mind off things a bit.

After another deep breath, which almost turned into a sob, I got up to go to the bathroom.

~~~
The shower had done me good, although the cold water had been a shock. Still, I needed it. That let the thoughts stand still for a moment and one found more peace.
I opened the bathroom door and with a sigh, I exited. At least the tears had stopped and I was in control again.
I jumped when I saw Melody busy with my bags. I actually expected to be alone, but she seemed to take her job very seriously.
She looked up at me, smiled broadly at me, and said, "Hi Layla." I cleared my throat and tried to keep my tone neutral when I replied, "Hey." I succeeded, only I couldn't manage a smile, that would be asking too much given the sorrow in me.
Lilia spoke up: "Our mate doesn't reject us. Xavier will never do that." She sounded confident and as if she were very convinced.
What parallel universe did Lilia live in? Had she forgotten what had happened just before?
I angrily asked her, "What kind of d***s are you on? You saw his reaction, he rejects us. Apart from the fact that he doesn't want a mate. And what are we? His damn mate!"
She should turn her brain on before she said anything. My wolf was far too optimistic and unrealistic.
Lilia said confidently: "He only met us today. Xavier didn't know what the bond was like beforehand. Now he knows and will..."
I snapped at her angrily: "For us, his name is Alpha Blackmoon! Don't use his first name!" Otherwise, it would make it somehow more personal, which I didn't want. "Layla, this perfect man is our mate. Apparently, we call him by his first name."
I cursed her internally and locked Lilia out. Yes, now I locked them out. She would take it and practically had to forgive me.
Besides, I didn't want to hear it. Alpha Blackmoon had made it obvious that he didn't want us. How did she get the idea that he suddenly wanted a mate? The thought was absurd.
Melody asked, "Are you alright?" I waved it off and replied, "Yes, sorry. That was Lilia, my wolf." She gave me a friendly smile and said: "No problem, I know that. My wolf is often no better."
Yes, every werewolf knew that. The problem with the inner wolf is that sometimes just couldn't shut up.
So I helped Melody and we devoted ourselves to my bags. I was spared the unpacking. The great thing was that it was a good distraction when you had something to do.
But we were interrupted by a loud knock. In my opinion that was a bit too loud as if the person wanted it to be heard throughout the house. Or maybe someone wanted to break down the door right away?
Still, the knocking surprised me. Who should that be? Certainly not the Alpha, he obviously didn't want me near him. Otherwise, I didn't know anyone except Paul. But what should he want?
I didn't get around to inviting the person in because the door swung open. This had made Melody wince slightly in shock.
Alpha Blackmoon walked in and it made my heart skip a beat. It was made worse by his deadly aura and that evil eye. One just dared to breathe.
He didn't look at me as he said in a menacing undertone, "Layla, you've already met Melody. She's in charge of you, whatever you need, tell her and she will take care of it."
We both stared at him and just nodded. He was my mate, but you could still feel intimidated. Especially at the sight and the certainty that he wanted to get rid of me.
Alpha Blackmoon continued earnestly, "Melody, Layla can unpack the rest on her own." Melody nodded and looked at me as she stood up. I would have met her gaze, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from him.
It was hard to tell if that was because of my fear or because he was rarely attractive and my mate. It was probably a mix of everything.
After clearing her throat, she replied, "Yes, Alpha." You could tell from her voice that she was just as intimidated.
I managed to look at her and she rushed out of the room. She had nodded politely to Alpha Blackmoon, to which he had replied. Fine, he at least seemed to have manners and wasn't a completely rude f**nd.
Unfortunately, he closed the door behind him and fixed me with a serious and almost fatal look. He really couldn't handle having found his mate. Maybe he didn't have anything like feelings in the first place. I could well imagine that.
The orders went off: "First you stay in your room, you'll have dinner here too. And the top rule: you have to obey my orders without argument. Until further notice, get out of my way, the house is big enough. "
Then he turned around, yanked open the door, and left the room without another word.
Everything was frozen inside me. My mate talked to me like that, it hurt. Actually, such words would not have hurt me, I knew that from my father and was used to it. But with Alpha Blackmoon it hurt.
Damn, mate band.
Why did it have to be this ice-cold man? That was unfair.
I had imagined my mate very differently. I had imagined it as the most beautiful experience of my life. Immediately feeling the mutual love and desire.
However, I already felt the desire for him, my heart called out to him. Was it the same for him?
Alpha Blackmoon, there was nothing I wanted more.
Lilia tried to fight her way through, but I blocked her. Shutting her out was the best solution. I just couldn't hear her opinion. Or rather, I didn't want to hear them.
Lilia was positive about our mate, but I was far from it.
This man had his damn hand on my throat. He probably toyed with the idea of killing me. In any case, he wanted to scare me and show who was the boss. Not to mention that he wanted to make it clear that he didn't want me.
My knees buckled and I dropped to the floor.
Despair, pain, and sadness.
All the emotions evoked by my mate. Exactly from the man I never expected.
