Chapter 31. Buried in Work

Amanda’s smile faltered for a moment, but she was quick to recover, her polished demeanor snapping back into place. “Oh, Mrs. Hale…um…she could not come in today.” She tried her best to keep her smile. 

But it was clear that something was going on that she did not want to let Anna know. 

“What are you not telling me? Where is Mrs. Hale?” 

“Um…she’s in the ICU.” 

“What?” Anna was shocked, her heart dropping. “What do you mean by she’s in the ICU, what happened to her?” 

“She was involved in a car accident while driving to work this morning. A truck came out of nowhere and hit her car. They said that even if she survives, she won’t ever be able to say another word or move again.”
