Chapter 58. It Gets Worse

A cold shiver ran down Anna’s spine as she stared blankly at the door Carly had just walked out of. The world outside moved on—people laughing, cars passing, the hum of normal life carrying on—but inside, she felt frozen. 

Carly had just confirmed what Anna had suspected all along: she was in over her head. 

She fumbled for her phone, her fingers shaking as she pulled up Liam’s number. She did not even know what she was doing, she was just following her instincts. She hovered over the call button, her mind racing. 

If Carly was right—if Liam was truly tied to something criminal—then calling him wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do. It would be the worst mistake of her life. 

But if she didn’t? If she just walked away without demanding answers? A lot was going on in her mind and she just wanted to be able to know what to do, but at the moment, she just couldn’t. 

Taking a deep breath, she locked her phone and shoved it back into her bag
