Zac—death penalty. This had to be a dream. She had to be sleeping. This wasn’t real, right?
Why was everything getting worse and so fast?
“No, no, no,” she muttered to herself under her breath.
Anna gripped the counter, her knuckles turning white. The news report droned on, but her thoughts were a whirlwind, crashing into each other so violently she could barely think straight.
They were making him the scapegoat. Victor was behind this. He had to be. He wanted Zac silenced because the guy knew a lot of his dark deeds.
She pressed her fingers against her temples, trying to force herself to think, to do something. But what?
Her legs felt weak. She stumbled backward, hitting the fridge with a dull thud. Was she being dramatic, or did the situation really call for her mind and body reacting this way?
