Chapter 192. The FBI

As Anna crept down the hallway, her heart raced, but not from fear, no, it was something deeper, something urgent gnawing at her insides. 

She had to act, had to do something before she let her own anxiety consume her. And the crazy thing was she didn’t even know what she was doing.

She was just being impulsive. Or maybe the truth was that she was expecting Victor or anyone to barge in here to get her so she felt like being out and about in the mansion would be better than just laying in bed like a sitting duck.

The mansion was vast, the silence almost oppressive, making every footstep feel louder than it actually was. 

It was funny how Victor was only one person but whenever he was here, it seemed loud. Whenever he was here, the place seemed more like a house.

But now, it was like a ghost town. 

Anna paused at the top of the grand staircase, glancing down into the foyer below. It was empty, the grandeur of the mansion feeling like a mocke
