Chapter 53. Shots Fired

Anna could not believe what was happening. She blinked rapidly for a few seconds to try to see if she was hallucinating due to her paranoia, but she wasn’t.

“Carlos?” she said his name in disbelief, glancing at the weapon in his hands, causing her breath to hitch.

Kevin looked at Anna as if it was her fault. “What the hell is going on, man?” he asked when he turned back to the Mexican boy.

“I…” Tears welled up in Carlos’s eyes. “I don’t have the time for this. Listen to me, please. Don’t make me have to hurt anyone,” he begged them.

Anna was still in a state of shock. This was the guy she had fallen in love with, the guy she thought loved her.

“Was all of it a lie?” The words came out of her mouth without her permission as she bravely took a step towards the guy.

“Anna, what are you doing?” her mom asked her, fear tinged in her voice. “Come back here,” she said, her voice breaking as her husband held her close to him.
