Chapter 57. Refuge
Carlos hesitated, his eyes flicking back to Anna, her mother, and Aunt Linda huddled together. He wanted to believe Armano’s sudden change of heart, but every instinct screamed at him to be cautious.
Again, mercy was not in the DNA of his brother, but at the mention of their father not being ready for the Halls, he kind of believed the guy. He knew that Armano would never joke about what their father said.
“Come on,” Armano barked, already heading for the exit. Carlos steeled himself, giving one last look at the Hall family before following his half-brother. The warehouse door slammed shut behind them, leaving a chilling silence in its wake.
Anna’s mother, her face streaked with tears, clung to her husband’s lifeless form, whispering fervent prayers. Aunt Linda held Anna tightly, trying to offer some semblance of comfort in the chaos.
