Chapter 56. Blood and Betrayal
The tension in the room was unbearable. Anna felt her heart pounding in her chest as her half-brother’s words hung in the air. Her mother’s sobs echoed, mingling with the desperate silence that followed.
As for Carlos, his mind raced, his eyes darting between his brother and the Halls. He knew that this was not what he wanted; he should not have grown attached to Anna, but now that he had, he had this urge to protect her and her family while, at the same time, he wanted to make his father proud.
But yeah, his desire to make his father proud won over because he barely even knew Anna and had been pushed away by her from the very beginning. He did not expect what his brother had said, and he felt very weird about it, but he was okay with it.
