Chapter 42. The Damage

As I'm about to walk away from my room, I see Hugh sitting beside the door.

"I thought I wasn't held hostage anymore?" Clearly, I am.

"I'm not here to ensure you behave or don't escape Miss Salvadore. I'm here to protect you."

Well, that is different. "Okay, well, don't call me Salvadore. I'm not." I don't know anything about the family, the name, or anything.

"So you would rather keep your father's name, Whitlock?" I look at him, his smile rising. No, I don't want to be Whitlock. I don't want to be connected to him anymore.

"Where is this doctor?" It's late, I need sleep.

"Through there, Miss Salvadore."

Nodding, I step away and stop. "Just call me Lucia, please."

"No can do, Miss Salvadore, I have orders on how to address you." I glance back at him.

"Marco." Of course, it is. He nods and smiles at me. Turning, I walk through the door. Marco stands with his back facing me.

"Come i
