The young woman spun around, and something inside me stopped.
I stared at her. Gray eyes. Just like someone I used to know.
No, not quite. The eyes looking back at me now were lighter, almost silver in the morning sun. Still, something about them tugged at a memory before I could stop it.
My gaze dropped over the rest of her. The height was right. The slender curve of her waist, the shape of her body beneath the plain servant's dress, familiar enough that my pulse kicked harder than it had any business doing.
But her hair was wrong. The woman I remembered had dark chestnut hair. This woman's was white-blonde, almost silver, spilling over her shoulders in the sunlight.
It made no sense at all. Still, I couldn't look away.
I took a step toward her and drew in a slow breath.
