Chapter 9
“You know what, I’ve been thinking, and I actually don’t need a nanny.”
Asta said it less than three minutes after Seraphina left us alone. She sat on the edge of her bed in a clean blue dress, arms folded, watching me with the serious look of someone about to share bad news.
I leaned against the wardrobe. “That’s a relief.”
Her little brows pulled together. “Why?”
“Because I’m not particularly excited about being one.”
Her mouth dropped open. I could tell that wasn’t the answer she expected.
“But you’re my nanny.”
“So I’ve been told.”
“Then you’re supposed to want to be my nanny.”
“Why?”
Asta stared at me, and I stared back. She looked like she was searching for an answer but couldn’t find one. Finally, she narrowed her eyes. “My last nanny said taking care of me was an honor.”
“Where is she?”
Her lips twitched. “Gone.”
“Then perhaps she wasn’t being entirely honest.”
