Shantelle’s POV

“Doctor, what’s wrong with him?” Mama asked immediately when she saw the doctor coming to the waiting area. I understood how worried she was, but she needed to calm down.

Those were the same words they always used for me; it was time to do the same.

“He relapsed,” the doctor said.

I was shocked, and I could see the faces of my parents. They didn’t expect what they were hearing; they didn’t believe Reggie could go back to taking dr*gs. I didn’t expect that. If I had been told by anyone that something like this was happening under our noses, I wouldn’t have agreed.

“How???” Mama was astonished; she wasn’t even trying to hide it. She couldn’t help herself; she didn’t believe what they were saying to her. Mama had always made it known to me and Reginald that she preferred him to me, and I didn’t fault her. Reginald was always doing things to please Mama. I couldn’t understand why that was so; I had stopped thinking about it.
