A Month Later

Victoria walked back to the apartment after classes. Her body was exceptionally hot, as if burning. She could feel a fever coming up. It had been exactly a month since she last saw Ryan on that fateful night at the camp. Victoria felt her heart constrict with pain every time she remembered that night. It was clear from the way he had carefully avoided her it was just a mistake on his part. He didn't want her the way he had proclaimed. It was a momentary attraction that was gone in the blink of an eye.

Victoria sighed and unlocked her apartment and walked inside. Picking up a bottle, she gulped down nearly half a bottle into her parched mouth. Not having any appetite, she went to her room and dumped her backpack, quickly freshened up. Changing into her comfortable home clothes, she lay down to rest her feverish body.
