Chapter 36. A Rushed Wedding

“Good, you have nothing left in New York then,” said Nate, as he drove towards his home. 

“What about the fake engagement? Chris's parents have announced it in a web conference,” said Claire, looking apprehensive. 

“Are you serious about that fake engagement?” asked Nate in disbelief. 

“I'm not but what if they take action against me? You have no idea how powerful they are, Nate,” said Claire, looking at him.

“Did they consult you before announcing anything?” asked Nate. Claire shook her head. He was right. They didn’t even consult her or inform her. 

“Then you are in no way responsible for what they’re up to. I’ll talk to Dad and uncle Henry and they’ll consult their lawyer to get you out of this mess,” said Nate. That relieved Claire and she sat back and relaxed throughout the rest of the way. They reached home late, and Nate pulled her along to his room. His parents would arrive any minute, and he didn't want to face anyone now
