Chapter 10

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the sunrise, at least not in this way—up to see the bright golden rays peeking through the mountain of clouds, melting thick inches of snow below. Killian was asleep beside me. I wondered how we could even fit on my little bed, but somehow we did. He was snoring soundly beside me, so peaceful. It felt almost unrealistic. Almost.

After a while of just lying there with thoughts in my head—thoughts of my impending future and little snippets of some fantasy life that was playing in the back of my mind—Killian stirred. He was waking up.

I was greeted by his sea-green eyes. He struggled to recover from the heavy fog of sleep, and then his eyes met mine. I think they brightened up a little bit. Of course, I could be wrong. I hoped I wasn’t.
