Chapter 30

“Myan!” Ash yelled, turning around to look in the direction of her screaming. She was being a victim of the posh. It was a silent bird that fed on humans but rarely dwelled amongst them. They were almost extinct, and seeing one took him by surprise.

Ash frowned and ran as fast as he could. Pulling a knife from his weapons pack, he aimed at the bird’s head, and the creature dropped Myan to the floor with a loud shriek as it flew zigzagged.

“Are you okay?” Ash asked after he had set himself in a position to catch her.

“I think so.” She nodded in fear.

He set her to her feet and held her hand. “This is what I meant when I said that this is a dangerous task for you. You should have stayed home. Now I’m going to be stuck protecting you like a child.” Ash rolled his eyes.
