Book 1: Chapter 26
Enzo walked up to the bedside table and dropped the tray gently before standing with his hands in his pocket and staring at Gabriella sleeping.
He leaned closer and tucked a strand of hair on her face behind her ear. Her body trembled underneath his touch, he paused wondering if he had woken her up but Gabriella remained deeply asleep, her breaths even and slow, showing no signs of waking.
Enzo watched her for a moment, his expression a mix of concern and contemplation. It was unusual for him to show this much concern for a woman, he should be busy in the study now but something about Gabriella's peaceful face held him there longer than he intended.
He thought about the day ahead, the endless paperwork and calls that awaited him in the study, but his mind stayed focused on Gabriella. It was a distraction he wasn't used to, yet he didn’t move. Instead, he pulled up a chair beside the bed and sat down.
