Chapter 104. Reunited
“You’ve been ignoring my calls.” His baritone rings, and his irritation is obvious.
“Go figure,” she responds sarcastically, tossing a cautious glance over her shoulders. Felicia and Agatha have gone suspiciously quiet. Both are short and pudgy, their grey-peppered hair pulled in severe buns. Unmarried and opinionated, they are only two years apart. Fate has given them enough time to bond over their common bitterness, as well as gossip. She certainly does not want to add to whatever gist they already heard about her.
Lara takes the back door out of the kitchen and strolls far away from the building. Margaret, Chris’ mom, lived on a farm. It is a vast landscape of greens. She walks farther away until she is under one of the orange trees scattered over acres of land.
