Chapter 105. Secrets
“Took you long enough,” someone says, as she groans, sitting up on the same bed as before, her bones aching in protest.
“Shut up, Carter,” she snaps weakly, with sweat running down the sides of her face. She must have died three times before her body hit the ground. Coming to think of it, she has never actually been awake to experience the final landing.
“Thank you, Lara.” Carter muses sarcastically. He scowls from where he sits on the same chair from the previous encounter.
“You need to do something about getting into this goddamn Fortress of protection. I Can’t be falling to my death every time you ask to see me.” She climbs off the bed, wobbling a bit before finding her balance.
The room is well-lit, unlike the last time when the only source of light was coming from the burning fireplace. She takes inventory of the room. It was earth-toned, a whorl of concentric circles with no sharp edges. Just endless curves. Like a cave…
