Chapter 15. Echoes
She rouses slowly from her sleep, the rays of the sun filtering through the blinds and hitting her eyelids. They burn. She winces in discomfort. There’s a loud thud in her head and a throbbing pain in her temples begins after. She dreads lifting her eyes open. She dreads waking up to the reality that is now hers.
He’d plagued her dreams. The man with the strange intoxicating scent. The sheer consuming power of his presence had burned through her memories and resurrected that cursed night of burning passion. Her navel tingles again. She subconsciously rubs at it.
“You’re awake. Finally,” a gravelly voice says from somewhere in the room. She opens her eyes to see Michael sprawled awkwardly on the only couch in her room. He dwarfs the chair and his position looks uncomfortable.
“What are you doing here?” she asks, clutching the crimson duvet close to her body. This was a breach of her privacy.
