Stavros’s POV 

I dumped Ajax’s bloodstained body on the porch of the packhouse, but before I could escape, Lena appeared at the door. In the pitch darkness, she saw me and snarled angrily, transforming into her wolf. Before she could attack me, Alpha Atticus appeared and howled for his dead son. It was enough to divert Lena’s attention, and I escaped. 

There wasn’t a minute to lose. I transformed and ran into the tunnel that led directly to the battlefield. It was the valley on the other side of Astros Hill, a small eroded hill on the eastern boundary of our village. Our pack had used it as a battlefield for as long as I could remember. It was the exact place where Alpha Achilles defeated Alpha Dimitrios twenty years ago. Zephyrus was waiting for me there, and I couldn’t let him down. 

I could hear the chaos at the packhouse as Alpha Atticus and Lena rushed towards the battlefield too, but I was faster. Negotiating through the empty
