Francis’s POV
“Mérida is good,” I continued. “I mean, she used to be a real pain in the ass, always nagging and getting on your nerves. You wanted to tell her to shut up, maybe even punch her, although that’s impossible, it’s a crime. But now, she’s different, she’s nicer, calmer, and laughs a lot more.”
My brother was looking thoroughly confused with everything I was saying. He didn’t understand it all, and I could tell he wished he did because I noticed his hands clenched into fists and then relaxed as he tried to calm down.
I kept talking fast, “Since I returned to Las Vegas, my life has been a nightmare. I had problems with Dad, and that’s why I started using drugs to forget about what happened. At first, it worked like a charm. It felt great, like you’re on top of the world. But now, it’s impossible. I can’t be without using anymore, and I’m losing my mind, starting to hallucinate. I even thought I could control it, but I can’t.”
