Chapter 14
He walked into the apartment and went straight to his bedroom, ignoring Veronica sprawled out on the chair in the living room, munching on cookies. He pulled off his tie and stepped out of his clothing, and headed to the bathroom. He showered and made his way to the kitchen for his dinner. Veronica was a good cook, and it had become an unspoken agreement in the house that she would be in charge of the cooking; to his surprise, he looked forward to her meals.
He put the meal in the microwave and headed to the dining room with the food when he was done. He scrolled through his phone as he ate. He didn’t have to pretend to be polite to her as they both had nothing to say to each other. They had both fallen into an unconscious cycle of waking up, eating breakfast together in silence, going to work, going back home, eating dinner separately as he came home later than she did, and going back to bed whenever they felt tired without a word to each other and then repeating the cycle th
