Chapter 20
Throughout the day, Carolina had been looking for a job. When she returned home in the evening, she saw a pair of women’s shoes placed outside the door. Judging by the style of the shoes, she knew who had come — it was Mrs. Verance!
Suddenly uneasy, she quickly changed her shoes and rushed inside, “Ryan! Ryan!”
“Oh, you’re back,” a calm, somewhat arrogant female voice echoed.
Carolina turned and saw Mrs. Verance lounging on the sofa, leisurely sipping a drink.
“Why is Auntie here?”
After all, Mrs. Verance was her father’s wife now, and even if she did something unpleasant, she was still her stepmother. Carolina maintained her respect and referred to her as “Auntie.”
“Can’t I come?” Mrs. Verance put down her glass, stood up with arrogance, and glanced at Carolina. “Your foolish little brother asks me questions he doesn’t know the answers to, so I had to wait for you.”
