Chapter 48
Carolina placed her mobile phone on the nightstand and removed her coat before lying down on the bed. She was exhausted and desperately needed some rest.
She wanted to forget about everything for a while.
Closing her eyes, Carolina tried to clear her mind of all thoughts. She needed to rest properly because so many things were waiting for her to resolve.
Moreover, she couldn’t afford to break down, as Ryan still needed her care.
Her sleep was fitful, filled with jumbled images: her mother’s anguished face before she died, Ryan’s innocent laughter, Red’s sinister and cruel demeanor, and Mirian’s caring gaze.
In the midst of this restless slumber, her phone rang again.
Carolina, half-asleep, reached out to find her phone and answered with a drowsy "Hello."
