Chapter 56. Hear Me
Azeeva’s POV
My name is Azeeva, and I use my inner voice.
The sunlight penetrated through the gap in the hut, shining in one direction where I was underneath. It sparkled on both eyelids. It woke me from the short sleep I had been looking forward to after my father disappeared.
Father’s voice began to fade in my memory. I miss that voice, God. I thought I wouldn’t wake up alone. I woke up alone. I was left alone in that hut.
Where is Letta? Why didn’t she wake me up?
I lifted the curtain that blocked me from the outside world. Now, my face was exposed to the light. To my surprise, it was already very crowded outside. Tribespeople were walking back and forth past me. Mothers were seen leading and scavenging their children to a nearby lake while their fathers carried firewood or a bucket of water for their supplies.
Laughter filled the air as young women cooked breakfast for the tribe. Everything seemed so harmonious and warm. Now I understan
