When we were alone, I yanked my hand free of Chen’s clutches and stared at him. “Why?”

“What do you mean, why?”

“What made you feel compelled to do that to her?” I grumbled, unable to turn away from everyone’s expressions, particularly Henry’s, who had asked me to find a love life weeks before. And I think this wasn’t at all expected. “You know, you don’t have to do that to her.”

“What’s wrong with what I did? She just tried to insult you. What else should I do? Watch?”

“What else? Look what you’ve done. Now, everybody knows about us.”

“So what? What I did was the right thing.”

“You could have just-”

“Are you suggesting that I should have just stood there and watched my man being humiliated in public like that?”

“What did you just say? My man?”
