Chapter 54
Maya’s POV
I wanted to find that man earlier and thank him. If I’d stayed a single moment longer on that bench, I’m not sure what might have happened. Well, I actually do know what could have happened… but I can’t allow myself to dwell on it.
“Elias,” I whisper, pressing my palms flat against the cold, tiled wall of this cramped, locked bathroom stall. My head tilts back, and I murmur my husband’s name into the silence, knowing full well that he won’t answer.
I slump down onto the closed toilet lid, sliding my back against the wall. My heart is pounding so hard I can feel the vibrations in my chest. I’ve been hiding here for a few minutes now, trying to calm my racing pulse.
