Chapter 14
The shrill ringing of the phone kept piercing the highly tense silence in the room. Madison stood close to Nathan, waiting for his approval before answering the call.
“Do you think he already heard what happened?” Nathan asked Madison with a cold voice.
“He would be calling you if that was the case,” Madison reasoned.
Nathan knew what would happen if his grandfather did. He would immediately remove him from his list of heirs to the Westbrook Corporation. He was so worried that he made Madison ignore the call three times in a row.
Madison then came up with a brilliant idea: “I will say I was mistaken. I will say you didn’t do it,” she told Nathan she would like to keep him in his grandfather’s favor. Nathan still wasn’t convinced, but they could not just keep ignoring his call.
“Go on, pick it up,” Nathan finally managed to muster the courage to answer the call.
