Chapter 35
Gage’s POV
No! I’m not worthy of it. I’m a man cursed never to carry that baton via the desolation of the last I carried. The last one I let down.
By the time I fall asleep, it’s the most tumultuous one I’ve experienced in a while. I dream of her pale skin and matching colored hair but stained heavily with crimson.
She begs me, cries for me, screams for me to save her, but how can I? There are forces holding me back; invisible forces that I can’t fathom where they’re from, making my steps ten times slower as I run towards her without the same amount of speed applied to her and she’s eventually sucked into the void faster than I can even put a foot on the ground.
When I wake up from the horror show, I show no reaction other than simply trying to blink it away from my memory. I’ve had this dream one too many times, and I’m used to the ache in my chest it comes with for hours at a time till I completely forget it.
