Chapter 40
Gage’s POV
She throws an excited salute and yells, “Aye, sir!”
“We’re not militants; we don’t do that.” I laugh at her, and she puts down her hands, a little embarrassed.
“Rule three; kiss me,” I smirk, and with another one of her childish giant smiles, she takes a huge dive for me before sinking me into the sheets with a skittish kiss.
The night passes well. I make sure it does. We sleep in each other’s arms, but she possibly had no idea how this works, how I live every day like the next could be my last. This passing night is one of those nights. We might very well have a short love story, and even if we survive tomorrow, there are injuries to worry about; the fact that survival just gives me the chance to die another day…
This life might not be for her, and I’m really hoping that if she really wants to push her way into the bureau, she’d move into the intelligence section, where she’s safe and better suited.
The next morning is not going
