Chapter 6
Gage’s POV
“So, Kate…” I came out of the kitchen holding two bottles of soda in one hand and some packs of chocolate chip cookies in the other.
“Scarlett,” she corrected me, seeming to lose a shred of her patience as she did. Maybe that’s what I wanted her to do — lose enough patience to burst and reveal enough for me to report back to the bureau.
“Right. So, does this happen every time you go to bed, or is it just…” I looked at her, trying to get something else from her, but it didn’t work. She just looked at me like I was the one missing brain cells. “I’m going to call someone. We need a psychologist here,” I said with a tensed huff and made to get up.
“I am a psychologist.”
I collapsed back down. “Of course you are,” I scoffed.
“No, no, it’s true.” She began shuffling through her bag again. “Let me show you my website.” She brought out her phone and began scrolling. “I’m just not who you think I am if that makes any sense.”
