Chapter 10
Gage’s POV
The stubborn lass responsible for all this still found a window to make a break for wherever she thought she was going when the leader pointed his gun at me. He was dead before he even touched the ground, and I was after Scarlett the next second.
“Stay away from me, or I’ll scream,” she threatened.
“Sure. I should have bought a megaphone to help you with that,” I muttered sarcastically as I kept jogging to catch up with her. “Now, you have to understand. You’re not a victim or a kidnapped person. You’re an innocent who needs more than just the help of the police.”
Sure enough, when I caught up to her, she let out a piercing scream, and I had to inject her with a sedative I had taken with me as soon as I noticed she was gone. I figured the worst-case scenario would be if I caught up to her in a vehicle or something.
It still came in handy here, though.
As soon as she fell asleep in my arms, I lifted her up with a fireman
