Chapter 19. Recovery
The next evening, Alex walks down to the first floor to find Maisy, who was replacing the water in the flower vases. “How did the funeral go?” she carefully asks the maid.
She slowly turns and gives a nod.
“I see. I’m sorry. I know you loved him.”
The maid holds her head down, and Alex finds herself opening her arms as an invitation to hug, which the girl takes.
Alex could feel Maisy quivering ever so slightly, trying to hold herself back from bursting into tears. “And how were the Hunters?” Alex inquires.
Maisy looks up and shakes her head.
“That bad? I wonder if we could pay them a visit sometime, check in on them?”
Maisy glances up at the confident woman, then looks back and forth for a moment.
Alex rubs the young girl’s head. “I’m sure they won’t mind. After all, how often do two beautiful women visit Hunters?”
