Chapter 5
Alessa smiled as she reminisced about the conversations she used to have with Elijah. It had been a long time, but she hadn’t forgotten a single detail. She turned her attention to the corn she had just finished cutting, ready for her mother to cook.
“Alessa, are you finished with the corn?” her mother asked, busy washing the utensils.
“Yes, Mom.” Alessa stood up and picked up the large plastic bowl filled with corn. “Here it is.”
She observed her mother’s cooking process, knowing that it was their favorite snack back then. Suddenly, thoughts of Elijah crossed her mind.
“I wonder if it’s still his favorite now… Maybe there aren’t many good foods in the States anymore!” she mused silently.
Curiosity sparked within her, wondering if Elijah’s taste had changed along with his transformation. He was now so different from the Elijah who used to be her best friend.
“Mom,” she called out to her mother.
“Hmm?”
