Chapter 46. The Reason Why She Can't Date
They remained still for a while as the busy metropolis faded into the distance. Mika began paying closer attention to the man's features, the way his eyes crinkled when he smiled, and the soft assurance that emanated from him. Maybe, just maybe, she might allow herself to think that reconnection may be possible.
The man slipped a little piece of paper out of his pocket as Mika eventually turned to walk away. He handed it to her and grinned, "In case you ever change your mind." "Mika, be careful."
She grasped the paper, briefly rubbing her fingers across his. She went away with a nod and a flimsy grin, her heart racing with a newly discovered feeling.
Mika glanced back at the man as she turned to get back to her car; his eyes were filled with a mix of desire and resignation. Knowing what it was like to hope for something that would never happen, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sorrow for him.
