Chapter 28
Conrad's POV
I'm surprised she endured for so long in that house. If it were me, I would have escaped a long time ago. But I understand that she was afraid and had nowhere else to go. I've been thinking about that the whole way. If her grandmother handles the finances, then she doesn't have any money to pay for a hotel. She could stay with me, but it would cause problems if someone found out. As we're nearing the police station, Gwen grips the seat and shakes her head repeatedly.
"I don't think it's a good idea."
"It is. You'll have a better life."
"Conrad, I can't go back home until everything is sorted out. Where am I going to stay? Harper doesn't even talk to me, and Johan lives with his parents, who don't know me and wouldn't want their son sleeping with a woman."
