Chapter 5
Kaytly noticed Adam’s amused expression and shot him an irritated glare, her eyes filled with displeasure. She suppressed the urge to kick him and spoke with a hint of annoyance, trying to mask her embarrassment.
“May I ask what brings you here, sir? Could it be that you came just to laugh at me?” She lifted her chin slightly, a playful smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she asked.
Adam’s heart skipped a beat, caught off-guard by her unexpected response. He didn’t anticipate her witty comeback, and for a moment, he was at a loss for words.
“Kaytly, you truly have a clever mind to come up with such an explanation!” He managed to regain his composure and chuckled.
Initially, he thought she would be flustered and embarrassed, but he was surprised by her resourcefulness in the face of adversity. Her casual attitude toward the situation and her ability to turn the tables impressed him. She was indeed an intelligent and capable woman.
“Could it be that you are here to mock me, sir?” Kaytly’s lips curved into a teasing smile as she raised an eyebrow, looking at him with a playful glint in her eyes.
Adam was momentarily taken aback by her question, his heart racing at her directness. She couldn’t possibly have figured out who he was, could she? No, that couldn’t be the case.
“Kaytly Blanche, stay calm. If he genuinely recognized you, he wouldn’t ask such a question. He won’t have any reason to interact with you if it’s not work-related.” As these thoughts raced through her mind, Kaytly couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, her eyes twinkling mischievously.
Kaytly continued teasingly, “Sir, I’m not in the mood for playful banter right now. If you have no specific business with me, I’ll take my leave.”
With that, Kaytly picked up her phone from the desk and began to head toward the door, still covering her cleavage with the pack of documents.
Observing her calm and collected demeanor, Adam’s expression turned pensive. He couldn’t help but wonder if he had been mistaken. Why would she remain so composed in his presence?
Kaytly flashed a mocking smile, her gaze briefly brushing against Adam’s, but he extended his hand to stop her.
“Sir, what is this?” Kaytly saw the large bag in his hand, a hint of suspicion crossing her face.
Adam chuckled mysteriously, his eyes fixed on the documents before Kaytly’s chest, finding it rather obstructive.
“Why don’t you open it and see for yourself!” He withdrew a set of documents and slipped the bag into her hands.
Kaytly gave Adam a puzzled look, then glanced at the bag in her hands, a faint blush spreading across her face. Could it be clothing?
“What’s the matter? Too hesitant to open it? Rest assured, there won’t be anything weird inside!” Adam teased, realizing that Kaytly had already guessed part of it.
Hearing Adam’s playful taunt, Kaytly felt a bit embarrassed. She opened the bag and confirmed that it contained a dress in her favorite blue color.
Appreciatively, she looked up, resisting Adam’s probing and speculative gaze, and a sudden idea flashed through her mind.
That rainy night, she seemed to have worn a blue dress.
Thinking back to his recent attempts to probe her, she suddenly felt strange. She returned the dress to the bag and returned it to Adam.
Once again, she looked up, her eyes calm and composed.
“Don’t like it? Is it the style or the color?” Seeing the sudden change in Kaytly’s expression, Adam furrowed his brows slightly.
“Thank you for your kind gesture, sir. My friend will bring me clothes shortly. This attire is not very convenient. I’m just a humble secretary. How could I accept such a precious gift from my boss? Please take it back!” Kaytly offered a faint smile, finding an excuse to decline his kind gesture.
Adam stared at Kaytly in astonishment, not expecting her to be so stubborn. What was this about a friend bringing something later?
He had overheard a clear conversation when she was on the phone. She was making excuses to decline his offer, yet she was obviously lying. His benevolent gesture was being rejected, and the person on the receiving end was acting against his intentions. It was incredibly frustrating. When did he ever extend his attention to women like this?
As he looked at Kaytly’s slightly distant expression, a touch of coldness crept into his heart, and fiery anger blazed within him.
“I don’t need it. If you feel it’s unnecessary, throw it in the trash!”
With a cold statement, Adam turned and walked away, loudly shutting the office door behind him.
The silhouette of Adam disappeared from Kaytly’s sight. She clutched the bag and slumped onto the chair.
Was he angry? Was he angry with her? Was it because she rejected his kindness?
She looked at the bag. The dress was just gorgeous! And the color was her favorite. To her amazement, the dress fit her perfectly, as if it was tailored specifically for her!
He indeed went to great lengths!
She couldn’t believe that he, a prominent CEO, could rush to the mall and pick a nice dress for her to save her from the confusing situation. Was he always like this with the women around him? Or was it a recent change in him?
Kaytly’s mind was in turmoil, yet amidst the chaos, a certain feeling flowed steadily at the core of her being. It suddenly etched itself deep within her heart.
She felt touched.

At the bar, on the stage, a cute girl dressed in a simple dress danced to the powerful and fierce beat of the DJ’s music. She swayed her slender waist, her arms raised high above her head, moving freely with the rhythm of the music. Her straight, shoulder-length hair flowed gracefully as she danced, and the soft, elusive light illuminated her, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.
As the two rhythms converged, in an instant, a dazzling beam of light shone down from above, and a steel pole descended slowly onto the stage. The girl moved gracefully around the bar, beginning a seductive dance.
The bright, intense lights followed her every move, and as the music’s tempo intensified, her movements became increasingly alluring. Her entire body seemed to radiate a bewitching fire.
Below the stage, a group of handsome young men shouted and cheered.
This innocent-looking beauty was none other than Amara, a stunning girl who was setting the stage on fire with her captivating performance!
Rowan and his friends were at the Secret Club, drawn by the performance. With the sound of the excitement, Rowan’s gaze followed, and he locked eyes with the enchanting girl on stage. A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, but it quickly turned into a dark, gloomy expression.
This young lady appeared gentle and innocent, but her inner nature was carefree. Watching her strong and seductive performance, it was clear that she was no ordinary person, and her allure was beyond the reach of ordinary individuals.
Rowan stared coldly at her, a sinister thought taking root and growing in his mind.
