Her eyes widen slightly, and she smiles. It reminds me of the dawn after a long night.
“That’s good,” she replies. “Because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
I take her arms away from my neck so I can get down on one knee. She freezes in shock. I pull the right out of the pocket of my pants. The emerald ring shines in the sunlight.
“Lydia Nightstone, will you marry me?”
“Yes!” Lydia exclaims, knocking me to the ground with a lunge.
We end up on the soft earth with her on top of me. Her pretty face is alight with excitement. “Oh Moon Goddess, yes!” she continues. “I would love to marry you!”
Lydia kisses me all over my face—my lips, my cheeks, my chin, my nose, and even my eyelids. All I can do is close my eyes and smile as I take in her affection. Her apparent enthusiasm in marrying me brings me relief and joy. She only pulls back and gets off so I can slide the engagement ring on her finger.
