The drive to Moon Grove feels longer than ever even though Rainer is driving as fast as he can without putting our lives in danger. Willow is seated on the passenger side, and she doesn’t chide him for driving so fast. Kane has not let go of my head since I told him what happened to Lydia. He’s giving me his silent support and allowing me to take strength from him.
We arrive at the house, and Rainer parks the vehicle. We all silently leave the car and make our way inside the house. My mother and Coit are in his study. Coit is pacing back and forth in the room as Mom is trying to persuade him to sit down and drink the tea she’s made in an attempt to calm him.
“I don’t want tea,” he snaps, refusing to look at her.
“Coit,” I say and he turns around, his green eyes lighting up with relief. I go to him and hug him close, trying to reassure him with my touch. “We came as soon as we could.”
