Chapter 146. The Bad Mews
Kane
I can’t hide the irritation I feel as I’m told that Rainer has sent a telepathic message back to the castle through several of our allies to let me know there’s been a problem with Lydia. She’s gone–back with the Blood Takers. That changes everything as I begin to deliberate with Myenas.
Damnit, I thought we had her out of harm’s way at least.
King Myenas follows me into my office, and I close the door behind us. I don’t lock it. I have guards right outside the door, ready to come to my aid should the old king try anything nefarious. Emory is in the next room so she can listen in on the conversation.
I turn around, and King Myenas is standing by the window where a view of the gardens can be seen. I walk to my desk and take a seat, waiting for him to join me so we can begin this negotiation. He doesn’t move. I stay put, refusing to come to him like a dog begging for attention.
“What happened to the mews?” he asks.
“Pardon?”
