Chapter 152. Promises at Dawn
Lydia
I wake up in a dark room. I’m lying on something soft. Opening my eyes, I realize I’m on a bed with a fur blanket. My neck aches. I touch it gingerly to find dried blood.
I try to get up, clinging to a bed post for support. Moving makes the world start spinning around me. Lying back down on the bed, I close my eyes. My limbs aren’t cooperating and feel heavy like they’ve been filled with cement.
The memories come in flashes. Blood red eyes, sharp teeth, pain, and a wolf’s head mounted above a fireplace. I touch my neck again and find the wounds have scabbed over but haven’t fully healed. Disgust crawls all over my skin like ants, and I want nothing more than to take a shower and scrub layers off my skin.
My body refuses to cooperate. I’ve lost too much blood and need time to recover. I don’t know how much blood the vampire took from me, but I know it’s more than a mouthful. He didn’t drain me, obviously, but I still feel like crap.
