Alpha Gerald is furious when we both realize that Lydia is back in danger. Toman has managed to kidnap her right under our noses. Nurse Janie is profusely apologetic when she realizes the mistake she’s made by letting Toman take Lydia from the hospital wing. The nurse looks like she’s on the verge of tears, not that vampires can easily cry.

“I didn’t know,” she says. I notice how badly she's  trembling. She's gone from the fun, flirty nurse to a ball of nerves in a matter of moments. “I am so sorry. If I had any idea who he was, I would have never--”

“It doesn’t matter,” Alpha Gerald cuts her off. “What we need to do is get my granddaughter back before this Blood Taker gets her to Carmine Falls. How near is that kingdom from here?”
