Ivy snorts, looking at me like I'm nothing more than a pitiful street urchin that has just asked her for spare change. “Seriously?” She shakes her head, and I know in that moment, she doesn't think I'm capable of doing anything important, anything that takes intelligence or courage.

“Lex currently has a treaty with King Matthias of Red River,” my uncle explains. “He’s already shown interest in doing business with Myenas. Through Matthias, Lex can get an invite to one of the monthly revels Myenas hosts for his ‘friends.’”

Willow looks at me, her blue eyes almost pleading. “Would you do that for us, Lex? It could be dangerous.” Unlike Ivy, Willow knows the sacrifices I've made in the past, and even though she and I haven't always had the best relationship, she's willing to ask this of me now.
