Chapter 169. Spreading the Word

I call the Moonstones first, knowing they will want updates immediately. I get Lydia’s mother on the phone who sounds relieved and happy to hear the news. They will be coming to see Lydia in the morning. I expect the full Moonstone pack to be in the castle by sun up.

The next phone call is to Coit. No one picks up the phone for a little while. It’s allowed to ring for what feels like an eternity until one of the staff at Moon Grove answers. She instructs another servant to wake Coit as the Alpha needs to talk to him.

Coit comes to the phone, his voice groggy and deep from sleep. “Hello, Em. What is it?”

“Hello, Coit,” I reply, trying to contain my smile. “We did it.”

“Did what?”

“We got Lydia back like I promised.”

Coit goes silent, then he asks, “Please tell me it’s for real this time. Please, Em. Don’t make me hope again only for her to be taken away from me once more.”

“She’s really here at Crimson Peak, Coit.
